Ways To Keep Your Baby or Child Happy While Traveling on an Airplane
Traveling with infants and little children has always been something that people have had to do whether it was for necessity or for a holiday trip. If you travel by car you have the convenience of stopping when you need to and if the baby has a meltdown and starts screaming and yelling the only people that it affects is you. Traveling by airplane, however, is an entirely different story and one that stresses many parents of small children out. There are certain things to be sure to have with you including meals and bottles in addition to entertainment for older kids which may require you to have an iPhone screen replacement or iPad repairbefore your trip.
If you plan in advance for situations that may arise and you follow some of these helpful tips, your airplane travel should be smooth and uneventful. When traveling with an infant, the timing of the flight is crucial. Try to schedule your flight to leave around a feeding time and nap time such as the lunch time meal. One of the biggest problems with babies is the pressure change on their ears on take off and landing so if you can feed them a bottle or nurse them at those times, they will not suffer. The ideal is to feed them on takeoff and then have them fall asleep during the flight following that feeding. If they are not hungry, try to have them take a pacifier to pop their ears.
When traveling with toddlers, the timing of the flight is imperative as this is the age group that will not sit still for long periods of time. If a bedtime or naptime flight is not an option, there are some good ways to keep your toddler busy. First, have them run around and exercise in the airport terminal prior the flight as you can. The more physical exercise they get beforehand, the better. Also, get on the plane last not first like many people do. The less time you have to contain an energetic two year old in his seat, the better. Buy some new toys periodically to show them during the flight that will occupy them and always have a lot of snacks and drinks for them too in case there is a delay.
A good suggestion for kids of all ages when going on an plane trip is to make them a special airplane ziplock bag filled with little toys, activities and snacks for them to have for the flight. Having new items to examine and play with will keep them content much longer than packing old toys. Things such as coloring books or a new video game are also great choices. A small portable DVD player is smart too where the kids can watch a movie or show to keep them happy.
Planning ahead is the key to successful travel with small kids. The more things to entertain them and snacks and drinks to keep them content, the better off the trip will be.
